Anyone who has been diving or snorkeling in the waters of Bonaire knows they teem not only with large numbers of fish, but also with an unusually high number of fish species. So much so, that in surveys conducted by the Reef Environmental Education Foundation , 8 the top 10 dive sites in terms of species richness are located on Bonaire.

For many years now the voted #1 position has been awarded to Sand Dollar's house reef, Bari Reef, with a total of 375 species, nearly all of which can be found in less than 100 feet of water and well over 100 within snorkeling depth!

Other sites in the top 10 include Tori's Reef (336), Something Special (332), Front Porch (322), The Invisibles (299), Green/Yellow Submarine (295), Red Slave (294),  and Calabas II (270). # 1 Rated Top Shore Diving Destination - Bonaire Dive Sites

Several factors combine to offer Bonaire visitors shore diving opportunities unlike any found elsewhere in the Caribbean. One is the sheer number of shore dive sites available. With close to 60 marked sites, and any number of easily accessible unmarked entry points to chose from, divers will run out of vacation time long before they run out of diving options.

Bonaire's calm west coast waters make entering the water for your dive safe and easy. And with a fringing reef no more than a 50 yards/meters off shore, surface swims are kept to a minimum.

Freedom loving divers are sure to enjoy the unlimited shore diving packages we offer with Bonaire Dive & Adventure, which enable you to make as many dives as you wish each day according to your own safe profiles. We've even designed a special accommodations and dive package called the Ride to the Reef Dive Package which includes a rental vehicle perfect for getting you to and from those shore dive sites. So all you have to do is load up, and off you go!

In addition to the many shore dive sites there are also a number many memorable sites on Klein Bonaire that can only be accessed via boat. In fact Bonaire has a total of 89 marked dive sites!

Though every dive site on Bonaire has its own unique elements, the nearly continuous fringing reefs that surround both Bonaire and Klein Bonaire generally have a fairly standard shallow and narrow terrace that slopes gradually down to a depth of 30" (10 M) before dropping at about a 45 degree angle to approximately 130 feet (40M.) Variations are most notable to the south where several sites are part of a double reef system, and the most northern of sites, which tend toward more vertical drops.

We encourage all divers traveling to Bonaire to familiarize themselves with the Bonaire Marine Park Map which lists all of the dive sites as well as the Marine Park Regulations prior to their visit. With your support, we can all be treated to reefs that are healthy and teeming with life for many years to come.
