Sand Dollar Welcomes New General Manager
Sand Dollar Condominium Resort is pleased to announce that Gilberto Lira has been named General Manager.  Mr. Lira is of Antillean birth, and he has more than twenty years of experience in the hotel, restaurant, and tourism industry within the Antilles. He has worked in management positions in several highly regarded Caribbean resorts—Sunset Beach Resort, Divi Flamingo Beach, and the Plaza Resort in Bonaire, La Cabana and Divi Tamarijn in Aruba, and Pelican Resorts and Atrium Beach Resort in Sint Maarten. He now brings Sand Dollar the skills, drive, and enthusiasm to focus upon high quality service and customer satisfaction.

Gilberto has a BS in Hospitality Management from Florida International University and a diploma in Hotel & Restaurant Management from the Aruban Hospitality Trade Training Center, along with a certification in Leadership & Motivation from Cornell University and training certifications from the Caribbean Hospitality Training Institute. He speaks fluent English, Spanish, Dutch, and Papiamentu.

Eddy's Restaurant and Pool Bar: Now Open for Dinner!

You've known them for their breakfast and lunch  menu. You've loved them for their cooked to order omelets, amazing breads and mama Sonja's beaming smile!  Now, get ready to have another enjoyable dining experience as the Carillo family serves up their new supper menu, pool side at Sand Dollar.

Chef Eddy has introduced an assortment of dishes with an ethnic bent and unusual combinations, such as the "Choppy Choppy Bite Bite" - a stack of ribs “Eddy Style” marinated with Eddy’s secret recipe sauce, "From Russia with Love" - Beef stroganoff served with turkey, ham and mushrooms or local specialty Keshi Jena, made of chopped grilled chicken in a cheese melt with raisins.

Eddy's is open seven days a week for Breakfast from 7:30 to 10:00 AM, Lunch 11:30 to 2:30 PM and Dinner from 6:00 to 10:00PM. The Pool Bar is open from 11:00AM to 10:00PM continuous with "Happy Hour" from 5:00PM - to 7:00PM.

Neighboring Sunset Bar & Grill is also open every day except Wednesday for lunch and dinner. Friday night’s Sunset hosts a Rum Punch Party for Sand Dollar guests from 5:30 – 6:30 followed by a sea side Barbeque.

Bonaire Dive & Adventure also hosts a Rum Punch party on Monday nights at the dive shop.

New to the area is the Eli Deli, located just across the street at the traffic rotary iBonaire Mart in The District Shopping Malln the District shopping mall. Eli Deli is open seven days a week and serves a light breakfast and deli sandwiches throughout the afternoon. In addition to making sandwiches to order, Eli’s sells an assortment of deli meats and cheeses for take away.

The Bonaire Mart, open for more than a year now at the District shopping mall, has a well-stocked liquor and wine department at surprisingly reasonable prices! Weekly wine tastings are held each Friday and Saturday.

A new Grocery Mart has opened in the Sand Dollar Mini mall, chock full of grocery staples. The mini-mart is open from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM, 7 days a week.

Sand Dollar & Bonaire Dive & Adventure announce the hosting of the Third Annual Fish ID Challenge July 31 - August 6 & August 7 – 13, 2010, free of charge to Sand Dollar guests.
Joining us for the third year in a row will be Fish ID experts Patti & Scott Chandler of ReefNet, Inc.

Continental and Delta Airlines Add Additional Airlift to Bonaire

Continental Airlines and Delta have both recently added additional seasonal airlift from North America to Bonaire.  Through April 2, 2010, Continental will operate a second Newark flight on Saturdays in addition to their normal weekly rotation. Continental flight #1553 will depart Newark at 11:55 PM and arrive on Bonaire the next morning at 5:22 AM. Continental flight #1556 will then depart Bonaire at 7:00 AM. Continental will also add a third direct Houston/Bonaire flight on Mondays effective March 7, 2010 until March 29, 2010. Continental flight #1898 will depart Houston at 11:30 PM and arrive on Bonaire the following morning at 6:00 AM. Continental flight #1899 will then depart Bonaire at 8:30 AM. Continental passengers are reminded to reserve their condos for the night before your arrival date to ensure early morning access prior to the standard 3:00 PM check in time!

Effective February 13 through August 14, Delta will upgrade the 757 (with 183 seats) currently operated on the Bonaire route to a 767 with 262 seats, providing extra capacity each week.

Sand Dollar guests have also provided excellent feedback on the direct Insel Air Saturday flights that operate year round. MIA-BON Outbound Flight #908 departs MIA 2:55 pm and arrives in Bonaire at 6:55 pm, the return flight #907 departs Bonaire at 11:25 am and arrives in Miami at 1:25 pm, offering plenty of time for passing through customs and immigration to make late afternoon connecting flights.
