There’s nothing wrong to decorate your living room or bedroom with some candles, but when accidents happen, it can be quite frustrating. But no worries, you can actually remove the spilling wax or candles from the carpet all by yourself by using easy home supplies.

How to Remove Candles from Carpet
Prepare these supplies:
- A plastic bag of ice cubes
- Rubber cloth
- Spatula
- Paper towels
- Clean cloth
- Hairdryer
- Vacuum
Follow these steps:
Chill the wax
Once you have your ice cubes packed in a plastic bag, place them on the affected area of your carpet. It’s to keep the wax as chill as possible so you can remove it easily.
Here’s what you can do:
- Wrap the ice bag in a hand towel or paper towel.
- Place it on the waxy area, but make sure not to wet it as it will make the wax more difficult to remove.
Scrape the wax
Touch the wax, if you are sure enough that it feels cold, you can scrape it with a spatula. Try to scrape the wax as much as you can, but be careful not to damage the carpet. You don’t really have to completely remove the wax since you can handle it in the next steps.
Vacuum the residue
Once you have scraped the wax, you may leave some residue and you can remove the debris with a vacuum cleaner. The stains from the wax may remain there after you vacuum the loose wax, and you can handle it in the next step.
Heat up the stain
To remove the wax stains, you can heat them up with an iron. Set it to the lowest temperature and while waiting for it to get set, lay a paper towel or a clean cloth on the stained area.
Then, run the hot iron over the towel, and make sure that you don’t linger on one spot too long. As you heat the stain, you will see that the stains get absorbed into the towel.
However, the step above is not applicable for a high-pile carpet or rug. Instead of using an iron, you need to use a hairdryer as well. Set the hairdryer to the highest temperature and blow the hot air directly over the stained area. Blot the stains with paper towels.

Removing hard stains
If after doing the steps above, you still see lingering wax stains, you can use rubbing alcohol or commercial carpet cleaner.
Here’s what you can do:
- Test the commercial cleaner or rubbing alcohol in the hidden spot of the carpet (like the part that is covered by furniture).
- Put a few drops of the alcohol on the stained area.
- Blot the stain with a clean white cloth.
Vacuum again
Once the stain is completely removed, you need to let the liquid dry. Then vacuum the area to restore the texture of the carpet or rug.
