The problem is really bad when you are leaking the water but the drain is clogged. The problem also can be caused by the pop-up stopper that comes up the hair and debris around the pop-up stopper. Of course, it is very difficult to get the stopper off, it needs an extra way to clean it well.

The Materials You Will Need:

1. Vinegar

2. Baking Soda

3. Seal Ball

4. X Cross

5. Stopper

The Steps in Cleaning the Bathroom Sink Drain:

Step 1 – Taking off the Stopper

The first step is just to take the top of the pop-up stopper. If you untwist it counterclockwise, they normally do just same off and you can just take it off. You will find a plastic or a metal material like an X cross under the stopper. Sometimes, you can take some needle nose pliers and get some of the larger debris out.

Step 2 – Checking the Underside of the Sink

Certainly, you have to check the underside of the sink. To check it, first, you must disconnect the X cross piece. Of course, you can see the drain on and off hot and cold water lines.

Step 3 –  Checking Up the Underside Sink Parts

By checking the pipe, you also see where the pop-up bumper connects and angle position. The position is where the little lever that you can move up and down.

So, the pop-up buffer goes in and out. Actually, it controls the arm that goes into the pipe. This part certainly moves the internal pop-up stopper in and out – up and down.  The part functions to control mechanism and this all bent out the shape because you can pinch and move it out.

Step 4 – Disconnecting the Arm Parts

For this step, we are going to remove the arm to get the little piece screw. Furthermore, you can take it off by hand but you need some pliers to get this off.

Before we remove it, we have to stick a pan underneath this sink because the water can leak out. Then, try to unscrew this by hand or you can take the piece off. So, you can get the whole piece coming off. Then, take a seal to insert into the one part of the drain that functions as the ball stops.

Step 5 – Cleaning the Drain and Stopper

After you repair under the sink, then go back to the top. You can still see the little X plastic piece but you need some needlenose pliers to remove it. Automatically, you will get so dirty sink. Then, you must clean it in the another sink because the drain is opened.

Step 6 – Reinstall the “X” Cross into the Drain

Now, you are going to insert the little X cross into the seal ball. So, the X plastic piece will move up and down. It is so simple way to clean and repair the stopper. Before reinstalling it into the drain, just pull out all the goop that block the water flow. Then, reinstall the X cross into the drain and put the stopper.

Step 7 – Applying the Seal Ball

After you install the X cross and stopper, now, we will work underside the sink. Just insert the seal ball into the X cross and place the little screw piece on top. So, the drain will go back to work.

Step 8 – Cleaning the Drain with Baking Soda and Vinegar

When you finished applying all of the sink parts. It is time to clean the drain with baking soda and vinegar. Just drip the baking soda continued by vinegar into the drain, the dirt and debris will remove automatically.
