DIY: How to Find In-ground Pool Leak?
The video will give you a guide to finding a leak in the ground that detects the leak from the pool liner, skimmer liner, and jets. Let’s check it out!
The things you need:
- A bucket
- Black plugs
Fill the bucket it with water and then you take a black magic marker. Then, you mark on inside of the bucket for how much water is in your bucket. And also mark the outside of the bucket with the marker how much water is in your pool.
Then, you let that sit turn the pull off, wait 24 to 48 hours go back to the bucket if the water is the same in the bucket as out of the bucket. So, it’s just evaporation that you might want to install a pool water level or a pool auto-fill in that situation. But if you think you have a leak, you have to indicate the water in the bucket is higher that the water in the pool. Finally, you can determine that you have a leak in your pool.
After you know that the pool is a leak. Now, we have to detect the source of the leak. Generally, the leak is caused by skimmer lines, jets, or pool liner. Then, you try to check each other to find where the leak is.
After you found the leaks place, start to take a little black plug these rubber plugs and in all of the return jets in your pool. Remove the eyeball fittings and put these rubber plugs in all of the return water from the filter system back to the pole again. Actually, you have to wait for 24 to 48 hours and go back out and you can see the water go down. But in half the situations, it’s not the return lines. Perhaps, it is caused from skimmer liner. Then, remove the plugs from the return jets and take those same plugs and put them in any skimmer that you have around the pool. Wait again 24 to 48 hours and see does your leak stop now.
If you have gone through this much trouble shooting and your leak stops. It’s in that skimmer line if that’s the case. So, it’s really not a do it yourself project, you cannot repair it by yourself. Certainly, you have to pressure test that line. There is some kind of a specialty in the pool industry to do that. So, you are going to call in a pool professional.
